Dasher, or Dasher Climbing Far, is a young male red panda with tiny paws[1] and Leaf's best friend.
When Shadowhunter arrived in the Northern Forest and killed his uncle, Dasher and his family traveled north with the Slenderwoods to find a new home, away from Shadowhunter. During the journey he and Leaf lost sight of their neighbors following an earthquake. They continued their journey into the White Spine. Both Dasher and Leaf get caught in a blizzard so they seek shelter in a small cave. There Shadowhunter arrives but reveals that he is not here to harm Dasher nor Leaf but has come to retrive the latter. There Dasher and Leaf discover that the latter has two siblings instead of one and that Leaf along with her littermates are destined to succeeded Sunset as Dragon Speakers. Once the Blizzard stops, Shadowhunter leads Dasher and Leaf to Dragon Mountain where they find Plum and discover that she has fallen badly I'll. Dasher knows which herb is needed to save Plum's life, so he and Leaf go search for one. They manage to find the herb near the river but find something they weren't looking for, another Panda who'd been washed up shore. Leaf recognizes the other bear as her long-lost sister. Together Dasher, Leaf and Rain return with the herb and cure Plum. When Rain reveals that Sunset Deepwood is in fact still alive but turned evil, Dasher remains with the pandas as Shadowhunter leaves to confront Sunset.

Creatures of the Flood[]
- After Leaf finishes her breakfast, she leaves to visit Dasher. Leaf races Dasher and his peers towards the top of the Grandfather Ginkgo tree. When discussing Leaf's mother and sister, Leaf tells the Red Pandas that she believes that her mother and sister are residing in the Southern Forest.
- After Plum heads for Dragon Mountain, Leaf joins Dasher and some other Red Pandas in their attempt to cross the river. They use the log as a bridge. But when Leaf and Dasher climb aboard, they fall in to the river. As the pair struggle against the current a group of flying squirrels helps Leaf and Dasher swim back to safety.
- Later, Leaf is seen playing Hide-and-seek with Dasher and co. However they are soon interrupted by a tiger. Leaf and Dasher discover that the tiger killed Scratcher Climbing Far, Dasher's uncle. Days later, Dasher and his family band together with the Slenderwood Pandas to travel north in order to escape the tiger.
- Days into the trip, an earthquake appears and Leaf and Dasher are separated from their famililes. They soon countinue their trek into the White Spine where they get trapped in a blizzard. The pair spot a cave and decide to use it as shelter. However, they find that the tiger has caught up to them. Leaf prepares to protect her friend from the tiger. Instead the tiger introduces himself as "Shadowhunter". Shadowhunter reveals his history with Leaf's mother and explains that Leaf has another sibling. Dasher is skeptical by this other siblings existence as nobody told him nor Leaf that the latter had multiple siblings. Shadowhunter insists that Leaf does have two siblings and reveals that it is their fate to become Dragon-Speakers. With Shadowhunter's help, Leaf and Dasher find Plum but discover that she had fallen terribly ill. In her delirium, Plum informs that she was attacked by a white monster.
- Dasher and Leaf are confused by this narrative which Shadowhunter attributes to Plum's illness. With Plum's life on the line, Dasher and Leaf look for an herbal remind to save her. They find an herb by the river but discover something they weren't looking for, Rain Prosperhill. Leaf and Dasher realize that the other panda is Leaf's sister and bring her and the herb back to Plum. As Plum is recovering from her fever, Rain reveals to the group that Sunset isn't dead but has turned bad. Dasher remains with the Pandas as Shadowhunter leaves for the Bamboo Kingdom.
River of Secrets[]
- When Rain speculates Shadowhunter's motives Dasher expresses worry when Rain suggests that Shadowhunter may attack their group once they arrive at Dragon Cave. After struggling to make it to Dragon Mountain, Dasher and Leaf follow the bats while Rain and Plum return to the Kingdom to confront Sunset. The bats lead Leaf and Dasher to the Slenderwood (Renamed Darkpool) Pandas and the Red Pandas. The pair find their neighbors have fallen ill so Dash and Leaf seek out herbs. After the pair return to their groups, Leaf has a vision which reveals that the Pandas and Red Pandas have gotten ill from drinking the dark pool. Leaf reports her findings to Dasher and co. In return for curing them both the Darkpool Pandas and the Red Pandas help Leaf and Rain re-locate the bats before parting ways. The bats lead Leaf and Rain to Pepper who convinces the pair that he's Leaf's long-lost brother. With Pepper now of Leaf and Dahser's group Leaf tells Pepper that they're going to retrieve Rain before heading to Dragon-Mountain. Unbeknown to Leaf and Dasher, Pepper isn't the third triplet, Ghost is.
