Broken Forest[]

The Broken Forest is the current territory of the Broken Forest Troop. The territory is named after the broken charred trees and rocks that encompass the forest. The Broken Forest is located in the Northern Forest and is mentioned to be in a valley that is overshadowed by its surrounding ridges thus casting the valley in perpetual darkness. The forest is dotted with red ferns and bushes that give the illusion that the valley is lit aflame especially when the sunset strikes the mountainside. The territory is mentioned to be the ancient territory of the Broken Forest Troop and an obsession for Brawnshanks. The territory was granted to the Broken Forest Troop by Dusk Prosperhill when impersonating the Dragon Speaker Sunset. When the Broken Forest Troop moved into the territory they chased away many of the inhabited creatures as seen when a pangolin complains to the Dragon Speaker. The geographic features of the Broken Forest were used by the Broken Forest Troop to trap Ghost Born of Winter. Additionally, beneath the territory of the Broken Forest is a system of underground tunnels and caverns that run throughout the Northern Forest. It is mentioned that these tunnels are filled with smoke and are unusually warm. These tunnels and caverns are accessible through a crevice located in the Broken Forest and were used as the site for one of Brawnshanks' feats.

Darkpool[]

The Darkpool is the former home of the Hollowtree Pandas and is located in the Northern Forest. It was formerly named the Clearpool due to the lustrous blue water found in the dead pools left by the receding river. It was later discovered that the pools hid drowned animals trapped underwater and caused the water to be poisoned. The name Darkpool derives from the deceptive pools hiding poisoned water. The Darkpool borders the north bank of the river and consists of moderate thickets of bamboo. There is a glade filled with ginkgo trees that support the food supply of the Goldleaf Red Pandas that also formerly inhabited the Darkpool. The clearing is described as sun-dappled with soft grasses and refreshing shade cast by trees. Near the river bank grows herbs known as purple leaf and red vein.

In a vision shown to Rain by the Great Dragon, the Darkpool is shown to have once been clear and peaceful in the past with white flowers carpeting the ground and cherry blossoms covering the sky. The Darkpool is the site of Sunset Deepwood's death with his body sunken in the pool. His bones still lie at the bottom of the Darkpool covered in weeds and is the reason why the water is poisoned.

Dragon Mountain[]

Egg Rocks[]

The Egg Rocks are stepping stones that link the Northern Forest to the Southern Forest.

Grandfather Ginkgo[]

Grandfather Ginkgo is the largest ginkgo tree in the Northern Forest. The red pandas would often have races trying to climb it.[citation needed]

Hollow Fir[]

The Hollow Fir is located near the Hollowtree territory and is one of the sacred sites where the Dragon Speaker passes messages and visions onto other pandas in order to fulfill their duty as emissaries to the Great Dragon. The Hollow Fir is a fir tree with a wide opening in the trunk big enough to fit a panda. The inside of the hollow is carpeted with spongy moss that covers the ground as well as the interior walls of the tree. Purple and white flowers speckle the moss on the ceiling of the hollow giving the illusion of scattered stars in the sky.

Hollowtree[]

The Hollowtree is the current home of the Hollowtree Pandas. It is located in the northeastern parts of the Northern Forest and borders with the White Spine Mountains. Its name is derived by the close proximity to the Hollow Fir which was once used as the place where Dragon Speakers announced their visions and prophecies. The Hollowtree is a well guarded grassy valley surrounded by slopes and ridges as well as abundant bamboo stacks growing in the place. Pine trees surround the area and provide a view of the distant White Spine Mountains. The territory is also inhabited by the Goldleaf Red Pandas as the valley provides fruit and insects for them to feast upon.

River[]

The river is a body of water that serves as a natural boundary between the Northern Forest and the Southern Forest. It existed prior to the Great Flood but was expanded as a result to the increased precipitation. For more than a year after the Great Flood, no land creature was able to swim or cross the river without risking death. Only after the water level had decreased and revealed Egg Rocks, was it safe to cross the river.

Slenderwood Forest[]

The Slenderwood Forest was the former territory of the Hollowtrees. The location of the Slenderwood was near the north bank of the river in the Northern Forest. The Slenderwood also consisted of the Grandfather Ginkgo and neighbors with the territory of the Goldleaf Red Pandas. The name Slenderwood derives from the sparse undergrowth and slender trees that encompass the territory. Bamboo is scarce in the Slenderwood which forces many of the Slenderwood Pandas to eat ginkgo fruit. The scarce food supply was one of the factors that forced the Slenderwood Pandas to leave. The second is the arrival of the tiger Shadowhunter.

The Cloud[]

The Cloud is a scared site located in a valley in the east part of the Northern Forest.
