Pandas, or giant pandas, (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) are one of the many species inhabiting the Bamboo Kingdom and the main characters of the Bamboo Kingdom series.
Society[]
- Prior to the Flood, pandas were solitary creatures with their own territories. Mated pairs would live and raise their cubs together, but once their cubs were full grown, they were expected to find their own territory. Pandas, out of all creatures had the closest relationship with the Dragon. Whenever the Dragon Speaker received a prophecy, their species would be the first the hear the Speaker's message. These pandas would then relay the Speaker's message to the rest of the Bamboo Kingdom.
- Everything changed when the Flood arrived. Sunset Deepwood, then Dragon Speaker, was murdered by his treacherous brother, Dusk, an action which resulted in the Flood itself. No one was left to warn anyone about the flood, so it caught the Kingdom off-guard. This event caused some animals to lose their faith in the pandas as a species, blaming them for the flood. Meanwhile, the surviving pandas banded together and formed groups.
The Nine Feasts[]
- The Nine Feasts are the meals all pandas eat every day. At each Feast, the pandas hold up their food and thank the Great Dragon for a different attribute before eating.

Religion[]
- Like many creatures inhabiting the Bamboo Kingdom, pandas believe in the Great Dragon, thanking it for food at each Feast. One panda is chosen at a time by the Great Dragon to become the next Dragon Speaker, though most recently, three pandas were chosen: Ghost, Rain, and Leaf.
Group Structure[]
- Due to being a solitary species, panda groups don't have a strict hierarchy, nor does any panda seem to be regarded as the official leader of any said group, except the Prosperhills, who appointed Dusk as their leader following his appearance and believing him to be Sunset. Pandas in these groups live and raise families together but otherwise mind each other's business.
