Sun bears (Helarctos malayanus) are a species of bear that inhabit the Bamboo Kingdom.

Appearance

Sun bears have short, black fur, with a large orange circle on their chests, similar in appearance to a very large version of a leopard's spot. They have long faces with pointed, pale-orange muzzles and round noses.

Sun Bears appear to be named after rocks.

Trivia

• Sun bears are the smallest species of bear, though, in the Bamboo Kingdom series, sun bears are seemingly larger than pandas, another species of bear.
  • Despite Shale, a sun bear cub, being seemingly younger and a smaller species than Ghost, a young panda, the former is stated to be slightly larger than the latter.
  • Though this may be a mistake on Erin Hunter's part.
• Sun bears believe The Great Dragon made the mark of the sun on their chests.
